Individual Udemy Course Refunds
Like other online learning platforms, Udemy’s courses have different prices. The similarity is that they let you access a preview of the course so that you can see if it is a good fit for you.
For individual courses, Udemy gives you a 30-day window. However, it’s essential to meet their refund eligibility requirements.
As I showed earlier, you can select the course you want the refund for in the purchase history tab. Click Request Refund and select a Refund Method, and you’re good to go.
You have two refund methods:
Don’t panic if you can’t find this on the Udemy app; this can only be accessed through laptops or desktop computers.
It was a bit of a letdown for me as I wanted my refund when I couldn’t access my computer. When you request a refund, Udemy sends a confirmation email to the email associated with your account.
The Refunds tab in the purchase history shows the refund request’s status.
One more thing: Your refund will be credit-only for courses that you purchase through iOS or certain specific bank transfers or Boleto Bancário and Pix.

However, there’s a loophole as this heavily depends on the country/state (in the US) you’re located in. If the law demands that, then Udemy has no choice, but I should tell you that this rarely happens.
On the bright side, Udemy subscriptions have a 7-day trial where you can request a refund more easily. The process is similar to individual courses; you just have to access it through the subscriptions tab.
Next, let’s look at Udemy for business refunds.
Udemy Business Refunds
As you might already know, Udemy has a separate portal for organizations or businesses.
Here, you have 3 pricing plans:
Regardless of the plan, you cannot get a refund as it’s a subscription, except for in-state special laws. However, you get a 14-day trial period.
With that covered, let’s look at the eligibility requirement next.
Eligibility Requirement
I have seen some people accuse Udemy of not refunding. When you follow up with the thread, in most cases they have violated the eligibility requirement.
It’s mandatory that you request a refund within 30 days of purchasing the course. This is because Udemy credits the amounts to the instructors after 30 days. After that, you cannot request a refund.
However, during these 30 days, if you have completed the course by watching all the videos, then you will not get a refund either. I feel that’s a little unfair, but it also makes sense because course content and style don’t drastically change within a course.
So, in summary, you need to fulfill 2 requirements to be eligible for a refund:
Even then, Udemy still has the right to reject refund requests. Why does it happen? It’s because some people abuse this facility.
So, it’ll be a bit harder if your account has been reported for abuse, if you have finished watching a significant portion of the course, or if you have requested an excessive amount of refunds previously.

Step-By-Step Guide to Get Your Udemy Refund
You have two refund methods:
Step 1: go to the Purchase History tab on the drop-down menu after you click your profile picture in the main menu.
Step 2: Choose the course for which you want to request a refund for.
Step 3: Click the Request a Refund text icon, which typically appears below the course name.
- Note: You need to go to the “View All Courses” if you have purchased through a shopping card transaction.
Step 4: Select the refund method: original payment or Udemy credits.
Step 5: Select the reason for the refund request, specifying whether it’s full or partial with a brief description.
Step 6: Click submit
You’re done; it’s as simple as that.
Udemy Partial Refunds
You get to select partial refunds in step #5, mentioned above. Once you confirm, you’ll immediately get a notification confirming that you have requested for a partial refund.
Requesting a Refund From the Course Player
This is pretty easy, too.
You should go to the course in the My Learning tab, where you’ll see three dots (ellipses) at the top-right corner of the course player.
Click Request a Refund in the drop-down menu, and you’ll be redirected to the course refund page, where you can request a refund.
Udemy Refund Request on Udemy App/Mobile
As I said, you cannot request a refund on the Udemy app.
However, you could still request a refund on mobile (I wish I had known that). All you need to do is log in to your Udemy account via a web browser and follow the five steps above.
Udemy Gift Refund Policy
The 30-day window applies to Udemy gifts, too. However, unlike purchased courses, the request goes directly to Udemy’s support team. If the gift recipient was requesting the refund, they, too, have the 30-day window to do it.
However, gift recipients can only receive Udemy Credits. I’ll discuss a little bit more about Udemy credits in a moment.
Refund Status Follow-Up
As I said earlier, as soon as you request a refund, you get the email confirmation. On the Refund tab under the purchase history tab, Udemy updates the refund status.
What Would Happen After Getting a Refund?
Although you might already have decided to request a refund, you need to be aware of a couple of things. Let’s look at what would happen after you get a refund.
If you get a refund, Udemy will cancel your access to the course (of course). However, the most impactful downside would be that you won’t have the certification of completion.
Mind you, it is a well-known fact that Udemy doesn’t give certificates for free courses. So, if you plan to use the course in your CV, it won’t work.
This is why most people avoid refunds, as you can get a certificate with your name on it.
The course might not have been exactly whatyou wanted, but you still can use the certificate in the long run.
You can also directly upload Udemy certificates with interlinked credibility to your LinkedIn.
This increases your employment probability and gives you another reason for that promotion or raise.
Unless you have signed up for a subscription, you should also remember that you can always come back to the course whenever you want, as you’ll have lifetime access to it.
Besides, let’s be honest; it takes a lot for an instructor to get an Udemy course approved by the platform, and they are generally created by professionals and experts in their respective fields. You’ll definitely learn a new skill set with every course.
Let’s assume you’re sure you want a refund; now what? What I suggest is getting it from Udemy credits. As I said earlier, let me clearly explain this and how it works.
Why You Should Consider Your Refund in Udemy Credits?
Refunding by Udemy credits is a standard refunding method of Udemy when the original method is no longer available or working. This typically happens if you no longer use the course card with which you bought the course.
These refunded Udemy credits will automatically be applied to your next immediate course purchase. I trust you’ll understand that whether it’ll be enough depends on the price difference between the old and the new course.
Don’t panic if your refunded Udemy credits aren’t being applied when you attempt to make a purchase through the app. They only apply automatically when you purchase via the website, which is Udemy.com.
You also should remember that Udemy credits expire. You don’t have to guess the date, as Udemy clearly points that out at the top of your Udemy credit history sub-page.
